Existing Challenges
What are the existing challenges?
The challenges facing this corridor have been identified through past community planning; surveys of existing traffic, safety, and physical conditions; and ongoing community outreach.
Regional Connection
In addition to serving local destinations, the corridor is a gateway to Waipahu and Ewa. |

 |
Dense & Diverse Lands
Dense land uses increase local traffic, and the diversity of land use prohibits a visual cohesion through the area. |
Various Travel Markets
Kamehameha Highway serves pedestrians, transit riders, cyclists, cars and trucks. It provides movement for local, commercial, commuter, tourist, military, special event, recreational, and other travel purposes. |
 |
 |
Vehicular Traffic
Major intersections are at or approaching capacity and bottleneck locations in the corridor force 4 lanes to merge to 3, causing heavy congestion. |
Aesthetic Views
Overhead utilities block scenic views, and gaps in landscaping prevent a sense of place and visual connectedness. |

Cultural/Historic Context
Current roadway treatments do not reflect the cultural values of the community or agricultural history of the area. |
